Month fourteen

Carlo had his first visit to a farm last month with his playgroup. There
were opportunities to watch pigs eat, pet a lamb, and have your
hat nibbled by a horse. Carlo loved all the animals, except the chickens. When we
entered the chicken house he took one look at the hens and began crying loudly.

The weather has been increasingly warm. We spend much of the day doing outdoor activities.
Meera, one of Carlo's friends, hosted a messy party where children covered
themselves with flour, paint, and water. Other than playdates like this, we have been out at the
playground or exploring the IAS grounds.

After much delay on the part of his parents Carlo had his first haircut. Suzanne who was visiting us joined
me in trying to entertain him while the stylist cut away. But it all ended in tears (at least the last
five minutes).

We are packing to head to Europe for the summer. We will be in Bremen, Venice,
Copenhagen, Budapest, and Cambridge. Our only hope for the trip is that Carlo learns to sleep in
his travel cot!

Valentina, a visitor from Mexico City, enjoyed the farm with Carlo.

Where's the horse?

This photo was included in the Institute newsletter (it is also one of the
last pre-first-haircut photos).

Suzanne came to visit us (finally) and we all enjoyed an afternoon
at Grounds for Sculpture.

Carlo is wild about dogs but he is not too sure about this one.

Carlo started out uncertain about his hair being cut, and by the end
he had decided that he did not like it at all.

The new haircut - a bit short, but no hair in the eyes anymore.

Carlo mixing it up with flour while attending his first messy party.

Carlo watches other children playing basketball on the courts at the
playground and then practices at home.

Until August...
