Brussels
Our friends Nathalie and Thomas invited us to their wedding outside of Brussels. After the wedding we went to Brussels to wander about for a few days. While Brussels might not be on everyone's list of must-see European capitals, we had a fantastic time. One night we were caught in the rain, wandered into a performance centre, sat on stage during a piano recital, walked-through (and for a moment) became part of a performance art piece, and unknowingly followed a maze to a small art-deco cafe.
Our first night in Brussels we sleeped on the floor of Karien, a friend of Nathalie. This is the view from her flat.
In front of the Palais de la Nation, which has been the home of both chambers of the Belgian Parliament since 1831.
In front of Manneken Pis- yes, this is a statue of a little boy peeing into the fountain below. There are many legends around its origin. One of them is that the son of a duke was caught urinating against a tree during battle in the 12th century. This event was captured in bronze to commerate the country's military courage.
    In the Musee Charlier.
