Hot and Lovely Budapest - page one

Sitting on the Danube like a mystical palace, the Parliament Building is a centerpiece
of Budapest. Hungarian politicians had been assembling for centuries in different
locations up until 1885 when an official buidling was construsted.

Lucky for us, Sara, Jack, and Gil were in Budapest for the
conference as well. Sara, the boys (the little ones), and I braved the boiling temperatures. It is not sunburn that is coloring the cheeks of the
little ones; it is the heat.

Filled with carved wooden folk art this playground was uniquely wonderful (although not toddler appropriate, even though the guide book promised it was for all ages). Unfortunately,
the lack of shade and the strong sun made us feel like ants under the magnifying
glass, and we had to leave in search of a cool refuge.

Budapest offers the challenge of many underpasses, i.e. stairs that we had to learn how to circumvent. But the boys were patient and seemed to enjoy the tour of the city complete with playground pitstops.

St. Stephen's Basilica was started in 1851 and finished 1905 (hopefully,
the Santa Cruz faculty housing does not take as long).
King Stephen unified the different Maygars groups and formed Hungary
as a Christian kingdom.
