With our dear friend Glenn (who was visiting
us from the UK) in tow, we went to see the sights of the center of Mexico.
First stop...the murals of El Palacio de Bellas Artes. During the 1920's
artists in Mexico were using their skill to depict their views of about
the political and economic situation in their country and internationally.
The government commissioned large scale murals that showed the social realist
vision of revolution and progress. (To me, seeking out these murals is essential
to a visit to D.F.) |

Enrico stands in front of Man at the Crossing
of the Ways. It is a duplicate of the original work, El hombre controlador
del universo (Man in Control of His Universe) by Diego Rivera.
The original was commissioned in 1933 for Rockefeller Center in New York
City. However, when the Rockefeller viewed the capitalist machine sucking
in the riches of the earth he had it painted over. Fortunately, Rivera duplicated
the mural in Bellas Artes. |

The intensity cannot be missed in the works of
Siqueiros. This photo is of part of Cuauhtemoc Revivido: El Tormento
de Cuauhtemoc. |
