Venice at Christmas
For Christmas 2000 we went to Italy with my mother. Our first stop was Venice. It was ice cold but nearly empty of people which made it seem as though we had the city to ourselves.

Palazzo Ducale was the official residence of the Venetian rulers founded in the 9th century. Its pink Veronese marble augments the pink of the sunset.

Serving as the passageway between the Palazzo Ducale and the prison, this is the Bridge of Sighs. The guidebook says that the name comes from the sighs of the prisoners crossing into the prison.
